RIG OVERVIEW:

ULTRAFAST FIBER LASER IN 2 MICROMETER OPERATING WAVELENGTH

Laser has become an essential technology for medical application. In the past decades, laser have taken over the conventional surgery methods by employing laser beam to restore injuries, vaporizing cancer tissue and removing dead skin cells. The emergence of 2-micron fiber laser have boost the laser capabilities in those fields, due to its eye-safe feature, compact in size and high water absorption that minimize the penetration of laser into living tissue.

This research found that the 110 W thulium-fiber laser is capable of rapid soft-tissue incision, vaporization, and coagulation. Therefore, we have taken the initiative to expand our constructed 2-micron laser cavity to produce higher power and repetition rate, while reducing the pulse width as much as possible. In the end, we hope that the produced system could be used in various medical application.

We want to proposed a development of a thulium ultrafast pulsed fiber laser source that having tunable repetition rate and capable to produce average laser power up to 2 W. This prototype will be use in several experiments and produce good result which will be translated into several journal papers. The system is compact version and able to generate ultrashort pulse in the range of several hundred femtoseconds with repetition rate of MHz range, which is very beneficial in order to provide cleaner and precise cutting.
